Overview

The Philadelphia Housing Authority, America’s fourth largest public housing authority and leader in real estate development and property management, is seeking a Locksmith Mechanic.

Under supervision of a Superintendent, installs, repairs, alters, replaces, and keys a variety of locks used throughout the buildings, facilities, and assets of the Philadelphia Housing Authority (“PHA”).  Responds to routine and emergency service requests, and is responsible for resolving associated operational and safety concerns.  Assists other employees and may be required to provide other mechanical services.  Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Ensures safety and operational conditioning of locking mechanisms.
Diagnoses causes of problems and/or failures in locking mechanisms.
Installs, repairs, alters, and/or replaces locks and related components on residential and administrative building and facility doors.
Installs, repairs, alters, and/or replaces locks on equipment and vehicles.
Opens door locks without the use of keys, when authorized.
Duplicates keys using key cutting machinery.
Fabricates unique locks and locking devices to meet specialty needs and/or to replace obsolete/unavailable parts.
Utilizes hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and appropriate power tools to complete assigned tasks.
Transports a variety of tools, equipment, and supplies as needed to complete assigned tasks.
Maintains vehicle(s) in accordance with the PHA Fleet Policy and vehicle safety manuals to ensure availability in safe operating condition.
Maintains and stores tools and equipment in accordance with manufacturer safety protocols and/or PHA policies and procedures to ensure availability in safe operating condition.
Informs affected parties, including supervisor(s), of procedures, status of service requests, and any associated safety concerns.
Logs and records all service requests and work performed.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

High School Diploma or equivalent; AND at least (4) years of experience in the locksmith industry OR an equivalent combination of professional training and experience.

Accredited locksmith training preferred.

Possession of a valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Driver's License.
