Medical Assistant (Contractor)
In-Home Evaluation

The Medical Assistant will work alongside our Nurse Practitioners aiding in the assessment, evaluation, and support of members during In-home primary care visits. The Medical Assistant will support a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in facilitating a telehealth visit with the member.

Job Description:
This position will require traveling to members’ homes in Scotland, Moore, Hoke, Richmond, Anson, Montgomery, and Harnett counties. It is not a remote position.
Troy Medicare is focused on improving the quality of life for health plan members through effective care coordination. In this position, the Medical Assistant will collaborate with the Nurse Practitioner who will be virtually participating in our in-home comprehensive health evaluations, capturing an accurate picture of the member’s health including all current, chronic and historical conditions, identifying gaps in care and assisting to develop a plan to manage their health, and uncovering clinical and social determinants that contribute to the management of the member’s health.
The Medical Assistant must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to conduct the physical aspect of the in-home evaluations and be competent and comfortable with web-based technology. They will prepare the necessary equipment and supplies for the evaluations, ensuring they are clean, organized, and readily available. During the in-home evaluations, the Medical Assistant will provide logistical support to the Nurse Practitioner and collect and accurately document patient data, including medical history, vital signs, and other relevant information. The Medical Assistant will perform basic clinical procedures while ensuring the patient’s comfort and safety during evaluations, and any additional support as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
Essential Skills/Experience:
- 1-2 years of proven experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting, preferably with exposure to in-home evaluations or acute geriatric care.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and infection control protocols.
- Excellent communication skills and awareness of issues related to communication, cognitive or other barriers.
- Strong critical thinking skills and analytical abilities
- Proficient computer skills with working knowledge of Google Suite (Google sheets, Google docs, Google slides, Google forms) and various computer software programs.
- Physical stamina to handle the demands of home visits, bending, lifting, and moving equipment.
- Ability to work autonomously, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing situations.
- Bi or multilingual is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Fast-paced environment
- Position requires travel to member homes via car and ability to enter homes with steps or other barriers
- Members’ home environment conditions vary. Clinicians must be able to see members in homes with pet dander, smoke, and other environmental conditions.
- Use iPad and diagnostic preventive services (DPS) equipment effectively
- Work effectively with frequent interruptions
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, push, pull and lift up to 20 pounds of supplies (includes iPad, medical supplies and scale), required
Compensation
- $20/hr per member called
- $25 per visit
- Travel Reimbursement
