Job Description

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

The exam room assistant is a Patient advocate, a hard worker who is self-motivated, able to multi-task, handles stress well, and is aware of the bigger picture. Under the general supervision of a Veterinarian(s), the exam room Assistant helps decide on the best medicine and treatment for Patients. The exam room Assistant’s goal is to have a working knowledge of the receptionist position, to have competence with Avimark and Microsoft Word, and to provide an exceptional customer service experience by treating each Client and Patient with the upmost compassion and respect.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Able to communicate/coordinate/prioritize exam rooms and hospital flow with and for the Doctor
Demonstrate the ability to accurately and legally record findings/history in Patient’s medical chart
Knowledgeable about infectious diseases of the dog and cat
Knowledgeable about zoonotic disease
Effectively present treatment plans, relating treatments to symptoms
Exhibit professionalism (dress code, presentation, verbiage) and appropriate exam room etiquette
Able to communicate with and to treat all Patients, visitors, Clients, doctors, and coworkers with courtesy, respect, and concern
Effectively diffuse emotionally charged situations and promote cooperation from the Client to successfully provide treatment for the Patient
Maintain Client confidentiality
Able to discuss financial obligations with Clients and discuss payment options
Able to help Clients with euthanasia discussion and cremation options
Qualifications

Qualifications

Veterinary experience preferred, but not required

Maintain a high level of professionalism at all times
Manage time and tasks appropriately and remain flexible with assigned duties
Good oral and written communication skills

Attend monthly staff meetings
Must be able to work energetically for an entire shift sometimes exceeding 9-10 hours per day (Shift does not end until all duties are completed.)
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
+ Ability to sit or stand and work at a computer for long periods of time.
+ Ability to be confident around animals (i.e., dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, etc. Candidate to confirm species treated with practice leadership for additional clarity.)
+ Client needs and work volume may occasionally require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job. This position may require special working hours, including working weekends, evenings and/or holidays.
+ Must have mental capacity and processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
+ The noise level in the work environment is moderately high. Ear plugs will be available upon request.
+ Job requires sufficient ambulatory skills in order to perform required duties while working.
+ Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
+ Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate other equipment as required.
+ Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
+ Hospital teammates are routinely exposed to a variety of animals that may bite, kick or scratch, and on occasion, may be exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological or zoonotic hazards and/or medication/controlled substances.
