We offer a four-day workweek with no evening or weekend hours.

We’re seeking skilled Veterinary Technicians at our Pets In Need low-cost veterinary clinic in Riverside, RI and for our low-cost Spay and Neuter clinic in Warwick. Floating between clinics is an option for those who like to “mix things up.”

The Veterinary Technician provides emotional support and compassionate care to the pets the Potter League serves and to the people who love them. The Veterinary Technician/Assistant is responsible for performing the traditional duties of a veterinary technician while working with a sense of urgency in a safe and efficient manner to best support the veterinarians and implement treatment plans.

Pay: $20-25 per hour with consideration given to skills, abilities, and current salary/tenure with the PLFA

Accountabilities

  • Provide compassionate care to our clients and patients
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Potter League policies and procedures
  • Admits surgical patients as they are checked in. Report any health concerns to veterinarians
  • Efficiently pre-medicate, induce, and intubate any and all patients as necessary
  • Monitor anesthesia with a clear idea of abnormal conditions
  • Recover multiple patients post-operatively
  • Handle and track controlled substances for large volumes of surgical patients
  • Administer vaccinations, tests, medications, and treatments at the direction of veterinarians
  • Ensure prompt and accurate data recording procedures are followed each day
  • Knowledge and ability to intake and release patients, including developing post-operative instructions in a competent and friendly manner
  • Take directions from veterinarians
  • Able to respond appropriately during an emergency, follow veterinarian instructions and maintain competency in CPR procedures
  • Able to assist doctors with surgery when appropriate
  • Maintain appropriate level of inventory of medical/surgical supplies
  • Prepare and clean exam rooms and treatment areas
  • Fill medications for patients
  • Walking/feeding patients as necessary
  • Train new veterinary technicians and assistants to utilize our patient care protocols
  • Communicate in an effective and professional manner with the public and coworkers
  • Handle medical phone calls
  • Assist at the front desk with rotating shifts which include answering phones, scheduling patient appointments, and accepting payments
  • Assists in maintaining healthy, safe, sanitary, pleasant, and clean facilities
  • Be a “team leader” by displaying a positive attitude and acting as a motivating force for all staff members
  • Follows all safety guidelines to ensure a safe work environment in compliance with OSHA regulations
  • Demonstrates initiative and a flexible work schedule while working enthusiastically and cooperatively with all clinic staff
  • Adheres to all Code of Conduct standards
