We are looking for a motivated veterinary assistant to join the surgery department at Noah’s Ark Veterinary Hospital. This position offers the opportunity to work in a specialty setting and advance your skills as a veterinary assistant. Qualified individuals will be able to assist in various orthopedic and complex soft tissue surgeries. We promote advancement of knowledge base and technical skills while practicing at a high level of medicine. You will have a consistent weekly schedule with a 4 day work week and no weekends.

Summary of surgical assistant:
- Assist with surgical admission and discharge, procedures, and appointments
- Assist with patient care before, during, and after surgery`
- Serve as a sterile surgical assistant
- Work closely and effectively with other surgical team members
Overview of daily duties:
- Set up and break down OR daily
- Surgical admission and discharge
- Patient preparation for surgery following all necessary procedures during pre-operative phase
- Scrub into various surgical procedures as sterile assistant
- Patient care for hospitalized surgical patients
- Instrument care including cleaning, packing, and sterilizing
- Handling and restraint of patients for physical exam and procedures in a safe and patient manner
- Operation and maintenance of steam autoclave and plasma sterilizer
- Obtaining thorough patient history, serving as liaison between clients and doctor
- Use of cloud based veterinary software for medical record keeping
- Client communication including phone calls and emails as needed
We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following qualities and qualifications:
- Self motivated, reliable, team player, effective communicator
- 6 to 12 months of previous experience as veterinary assistant
- Familiarity and ability to recall surgical instruments, equipment, and procedures
- Basic knowledge of sterile and aseptic technique
- Enjoys learning and working as part of a team
- Ability to communicate with coworkers, clients, and referral hospitals via verbal and written communication
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology and reading medical records
- Maintains professionalism and composure with coworkers and clients
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in busy work environment
- Comfortable with frequent use of computers and tablets for paperless electronic record keeping
- Ability to bend, kneel, and stand for long periods of time; can lift patients and equipment up to 40 pounds individually
- Obtain patient vitals and alert DVM or LVT if vitals are not normal or have changed
