Overview

The Maintenance Assistant assists the maintenance department with the preventative maintenance program and the repair, installation, modification, and relocation of plant equipment and facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Responsible for facilities maintenance, including welding and repairing equipment or tools as necessary.
Conducts scheduled equipment and forklift inspections.
Assists the maintenance team in equipment repairs.
Adheres to all safety protocols for personnel and facility protection.
Performs tasks assigned by the maintenance manager or as mandated by plant management.
Requires knowledge of electrical systems and troubleshooting.
Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:  Employees are standing, walking, or climbing 99% of the time; sitting 1% of the time; lifting to 50 lbs. as needed; ability to climb and work at heights up to of 45 feet; reading written instructions and procedures; printing or writing legibly to complete all required paperwork.

METHODS, TECHNIQUES, PROCEDURES:

Follows Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions as outlined in the Training Matrix.

EQUIPMENT, AIDS, TOOLS:  This person must provide his/her hand tools; have a valid driver’s license, be able to qualify for a hi-lo license; be able to use a riding lawn mower; be able to use a snow blower or a shovel to clear snow.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  This work site is in the plant.  The plant is on one level, accessible directly from the parking lot.  There are stairs in the rail pit and up to the slitter platforms.  There are short ladders on the banding lines to climb from the floor to the conveyor.  There are seasonal variations in temperatures from 60 to 95+ degrees; some exposure to diesel fumes as trucks move through the plant; noise level varies depending on number of machines in operation.  Potential hazards include strains, cuts, and crush injuries.
