Overview

Kanawha Valley Veteirnary Emergency Hospital (KVVEH) is an after-hours emergency hospital serving companion animals throughout the Kanawha Valley and surrounding communities. KVVEH operates on weeknights, weekends, and holidays when primary care veterinary hospitals are generally closed or unavailable.

Providing progressive emergency care requires specialized skills, teamwork, and equipment. Based on their education, credentials, and demonstrated skill level, our credentialed veterinary technicians and veterinary technology students provide patient nursing care and assist with:

*Patient triage and stabilization
*Digital radiography
*Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma (FAST)
*Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
*Wound management
*Transfusion therapy
*Anesthesia induction and monitoring
*Surgical procedures
*Diagnostic testing and patient treatments

Compensation is based on education, VTNE status, professional credentials, experience, and demonstrated skill level.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology, or current enrollment in an accredited veterinary technology program
Graduates are encouraged to have completed or be scheduled to take the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE)
One to two years of veterinary experience is preferred but not required
Previous emergency nursing experience is not required
