Bedford Pet Urgent Care is located within Bedford Veterinary Medical Center, a state of the art, multi-doctor hospital that offers personal, progressive, and comprehensive animal care to dogs, cats, and pocket pets in the Southern New Hampshire area. We practice the highest quality medicine while providing our pets and clients with the utmost care and compassion. Our hospital offers many services including annual wellness care, anesthesia and sedation, dentistry, internal medicine, laser therapy, in-house pharmacy, surgery, urgent/immediate care, and acupuncture. We are ready with a positive, experienced support staff and excellent clientele and well equipped with ultrasound, digital radiography, dental x-ray, and a complete in-house laboratory. We aim to make sure our clients and pets experiences leave them with a comfortable feeling as if they are an extended part of Bedford Veterinary Medical Center’s family!

Bedford Pet Urgent Care is available after hours and weekends for urgent and sick patients that need to be seen but don’t require overnight hospitalization or surgery.

Job Description

This is a working supervisory position responsible for the leadership and of the urgent care team under the mentorship of the Practice Manager. In addition to Veterinary Technician responsibilities, duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Development and implementing of basic protocol and standard procedure training
  • Scheduling
  • Conducting team meetings
  • Provide direction for efficient work flow
  • Assisting in staffing and coverage where needed
  • Reviewing revenue reporting
  • Mentoring technicians and assistants within the department
  • Accurately handling and recording controlled drugs
  • Maintaining appropriate inventory
  • Working with urgent care veterinarians to develop protocols to improve patient care
  • Ensure accurate record keeping
  • Occasional marketing
  • Facility maintenance and safety

Qualifications

We’re looking for:

  • Certified Veterinary Technician or eligible for certification- required
  • A minimum of 1-year experience – required
  • A high work ethic and positive attitude team member
  • Supervisory/leadership experience- preferred
  • Ability to arrive on-time and ready to work
  • Weekend availability
  • Exceptional customer service skills and ability to communicate precisely
  • Interpret medical records and record client history accurately
  • Knowledge in preventative care, surgical procedures, and hospital flow
  • Ability to restrain pets in a low-stress and safe manner
  • Proficient in sample collection to include blood samples, urine, fecal, and skin
  • Ability to properly set-up and process laboratory samples and tests
  • Skilled in anesthesia preparation, monitoring, and recovery – required
  • Proficient in positioning and capturing radiographs
  • A self-starter with the desire to continue to advance one’s knowledge and skillset
  • Ability to receive constructive feedback to maintain hospital efficiency

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to sit or stand and work at a computer for long periods of time.
  • Ability to be confident around animals (i.e., dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, etc. Candidate to confirm species treated with practice leadership for additional clarity.)
  • Client needs and work volume may occasionally require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job. This position may require special working hours, including working weekends, evenings and/or holidays.
  • Must have mental capacity and processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderately high. Ear plugs will be available upon request.
  • Job requires sufficient ambulatory skills in order to perform required duties while working.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate other equipment as required.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Hospital teammates are routinely exposed to a variety of animals that may bite, kick or scratch, and on occasion, may be exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological or zoonotic hazards and/or medication/controlled substances.

Job Type: Full-time

Hospital Hours:  Open 7 days a week

Mon-Fri: 6pm-10pm

Saturday: 12pm-10pm

Sunday: 10am-8pm

Pay: Competitive pay; hourly wage dependent upon experience and/or licensure status.
