Overview
Kanawha Valley Veterinary Emergency Hospital (KVVEH) is an after-hours emergency hospital serving companion animals in the Kanawha Valley and surrounding communities. KVVEH operates during weeknights, weekends, and holidays when primary care veterinary hospitals are generally closed or unavailable. Veterinary Assistants are vital members of the KVVEH team. They support patient care in triage, outpatient services, and the ICU.
Under appropriate veterinary supervision, responsibilities may include:
*Assisting with radiology, ultrasonography, and anesthesia
*Collecting samples for diagnostic testing
*Recognizing and communicating changes in a patient’s condition
*Providing compassionate patient handling and restraint
*Communicating effectively with clients and team members
*Working efficiently in a fast-paced emergency environment
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
*Veterinary Assistant certificate
*Previous veterinary assisting or animal-care experience
*Strong client-service skills
*Effective communication and teamwork experience
Experience in human healthcare, emergency response, animal care, customer service, or other fast-paced team environments may transfer well to this position.
