The Upper Valley Humane Society is looking for a part time Veterinary Assistant Intern 20-30 hours per week on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 8am-4:30pm with some room for negotiation.

Under the close supervision, learn and perform tasks related to Veterinary medicine.

  • Maintain medical areas and equipment
  • Clean and sterilize surgical equipment
  • Develop skills in lab testing including fecal floats, bloodwork, ear cytology and more. Competency with a microscope essential.
  • Assist with maintaining medical records
  • Observe, demonstrate and perform proper animal handling and restraint for cats, dogs and small animals
  • Develop skills in administration of medication. Dispense and label non-controlled medications.
  • Prepare for in-house surgery and community clinics
  • Observe surgeries as time allows
  • Willingness to learn skills in Veterinary medicine: venipuncture, ear cleaning, nail trims, basic surgery recovery and more

Academic credit may be available through your institution of learning. A stipend may be available.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Experience with dog and cat care required
Professional animal handling experience highly desirable
Interest in veterinary or medical topics
Commitment to learning and personal improvement
Currently in a Veterinary Technology program (student) highly desirable
